The Story of Country Shul
The Country Shul was founded in 1990 when three local families launched a Jewish center to serve as a resource and community establishment for those living in the Richmond Hill and Vaughan area.
Our goal has always been to offer accessible traditional services, educational programming, and social events in a comfortable setting, where all are cherished and welcome.
Over the years, the Country Shul has evolved and adapted to our ever-expanding community. In the early days, the Shul began in the basement of one of our founding members before moving onto shopping center locations and eventually relocating to a house on the southeast corner of Bathurst and Carrville/Rutherford. In 2015, we formed a partnership with The Jewish Bukharian Community of Toronto, where we built a beautiful center on this property that has gone on to serve the expanding needs of both of our communities.
While the development of our facilities to meet the growth of our community has beena primary focus over the years, the sense of belonging and fulfillment our members feel from being a part of a close-knit family is what brings us the most joy!
Meet Our Leaders
Board Members
Meet the president of the Shul, Javid. He has been with the Shul since the early 90s as one of the original founding members. As a major benefactor for many years, he was actively involved with the construction of our building.
Erez does a fantastic job as a Gabay. He’s joyful, energized, and cares deeply about the Shul. He’s happily married with three wonderful children and places a major emphasis on Jewish education. As a devoted Zionist, he wishes to bring back the blessing for IDF and the State of Israel.
Michelle joined the Shul in 2016 when she was searching for an intimate community to join with her husband. She believes that you feel special coming into the Shul and that you’re judged not on your possessions but on how much of a mensch you are.
Rabbis & Speakers
Efi does a brilliant job of bringing together tradition and modernity. He bridges the Torah and science in his inspiring lectures, captivating his audience while ensuring his style of education is relevant to today’s world.
